The first stage of selection for the Translate Ukraine program is now behind us. A total of 176 projects — future translations of Ukrainian books into languages of the world — are competing for financial support from the Ukrainian Book Institute.

This year, we received 18 more applications than last year. Three applications did not pass the technical review. Overall, 119 publishers from 44 countries are competing for translation support.

The largest number of applications was submitted for translations into English — 21 projects in total. Ukrainian books also attracted equal interest from Arab, Polish, and French publishers, each submitting 11 projects.

There are also applicants wishing to translate Ukrainian books into Persian, Chinese, and Japanese. From India, applications were submitted for translations into Tamil and Bengali: Tamil is widely spoken in the south of the country, while Bengali is spoken in the northeast.

Ukrainian publishers may also participate in the competition. This year, they submitted 11 projects.

We would like to remind you that under the Translate Ukraine program, the Ukrainian Book Institute supports projects for translating Ukrainian books into other languages. In the next stages of the competition, projects will be evaluated by experts. Those that reach the final stage will receive financial support from the Ukrainian Book Institute.
